This software is an asset management system that can be customized for logistics companies that need to track equipment, maintenance, and locations of assets.
I was not building for a specific client, so I had to devise creative ways to put a face on the end user. I created personas to make needs more apparent and later incorporated them into the activity model. The activity model not only laid out the actions and operations of the user, but made opportunities for features more apparent.
During development, I conducted design sessions that would facilitate discussion about possible functionality and gave the opportunity for developers to voice their opinions. This collaboration created smoother development as everyone felt that they had stock in the design.
I created paper prototypes with the wireframes and had random coworkers walk through it to make sure that I had created a simple process that allowed a user to easily accomplish a task. This was another tool I used to overcome the fact that I did not have a specific customer.
The activity model served as an excellent reference to understand the ultimate goals of the end user and through it I was able to establish a workflow that reflected the needs of the personas.
